Just Scratches the Surface of Candi
Yes, you can legitimately call this album The Best of Candi Staton, but only the best for this period of her recording legacy. There are two other "best of" Candi Staton collections, including Evidence: The Complete Fame Records Masters and a self titled collection with some other great material on it. The point is, Candi Staton is perhaps the most underrated and underplayed of all the great southern soul sisters, and I'm hard pressed to find any fault with her recordings. She makes bland material exciting (including her disco numbers) and she always gives it her full effort. This is the Staton record to dance to - the Fame Recordings are the one to really listen to. But it's all good, and you should build a collection of most everything she's done.
