Discography: Wilson Pickett
Wilson Pickett — The Complete RCA Studio Recordings (1973-1975) (CD1): Reviews
Watered Down Wilson
When Pickett left Atlantic for RCA, he left behind the terrific studio musicians who backed him in places like Muscle Shoals and never quite recovered. The songs on both volumes of this collection sound forced and contrived, while his Atlantic recordings were collaborations with the players in the studio, these performances don't take advantage of one of the greatest soul shouters in modern soul. I own everything Pickett has ever recorded, and I must admit that I never listen to these recordings. Why listen to watered down Pickett when the Atlantic albums are always there for the listening? If you're a completist, you might want these (as I did). But don't expect anything exciting or worth repeated plays.
